Fela Kuti – Open and Close/Aphrodisiac (CD) collection-the-relix-sessions-vinyl-series Visible Vinyl is the perfectFela Kuti's catalog is vast, but these two records capture something essential about how he built his sound in the early 1970s, before Afrobeat became a fully weaponized political force. The contrast here is instructive: loose, exploratory grooves on one side, tight single ready cuts on the other, recorded in London at one of the most storied studios on earth. The songs on Open and Close and Afrodisiac reflect the two sides of the Fela musical story.
