The Modern Jazz Sextet Rock & Roll and world music influencesThis excellent sextet session by trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie was recorded for NORGRAN in New York City on January 12, 1956 with Sonny Stitt (alto sax); John Lewis (piano); Skeeter Best (guitar); Percy Heath (bass) & Charli Persip (drums). Featuring originals from Gillespie & Stitt and a medley of three standards, 'The Modern Jazz Sextet' creates a relaxed and engaging bop jam with a superb rhythm section.
