この楽譜は、「アリスティッド・ブリュアンの歌とフランスの古いシャンソン」シリーズの一冊として制作されました。表紙には19世紀末のパリのシャンソン歌手アリスティッド・ブリュアン（Aristide Bruant）の姿が描かれていますが、この楽曲自体はブリュアン作ではなく、古くから伝わる兵士の思い出をテーマとしたシャンソンです。
